Black Mambas Anti-Poaching Unit

Hi-Tec Sports are proud to announce that Chairman and founder of Hi-Tec Sports, Frank van Wezel, has made a substantial donation to the Black Mambas, a unit of all-female rangers from just outside the Balule Nature Reserve, to build on the global anti-poaching awareness campaign.

Hi-Tec have also supplied each of the Black Mambas with a pair of Altitude V boots to keep their feet comfortable when walking the many miles required each day to patrol the parameters of the reserve. They spend their days walking 8-13 km looking for poachers and their camps, snares and holes in fences, in order to protect these magnificent creatures.

In a unique and hard hitting campaign, van Wezel has ommitted to using every pair of shoes sold under both Hi-Tec and Magnum as carriers for “Stop the Rhino killing” messaging using specially designed swing tags. The message to consumers is clear; the Rhinos need all the help they can get.

Hi-Tec South Africa fans are familiar with the ongoing efforts to align with conservation-minded entities such as SANParks, the Two Oceans Aquarium in Cape Town and the Cape Leopard Trust. A love of the outdoors along with a passionate need to conserve our precious natural environment is shared by consumers who take Hi-Tec along with them on their many outdoor adventures.

Consumers of van Wezel’s other brand, Magnum are predominantly soldiers, policemen, fire fighters and medical staff, many of whom are based in China and Vietnam, where consumption of Rhino horn for medicinal purposes is rife.

The Black Mambas, an all-women anti-poaching combat team, was launched by the Olifants West Conservation Trust in partnership with Transfontier Africa, the Endangered Wildlife Trust (EWT) and Rhino Mercy. The team aims to secure the western boundary of the Greater Kruger Park (GKP) between Hoedspruit and Phalaborwa in the Olifants West Region of the Balule Nature Reserve. The programme is supported by Work for Wildlife, a Department of Public Works programme in conjunction with SANParks. Specialist training and the use of Belgian Shepard Dogs (Malinois).
